Executive Summary
Objective
PuroAir partnered with SleepScore Labs to evaluate the efficacy of the PuroAir 240 air purifier in reducing allergy symptoms and enhancing sleep quality among users. Given the widespread impact of allergies on sleep disturbances and overall health, this study aimed to provide empirical evidence on the benefits of using an air purifier as a non-pharmacological intervention.
Methodology
This research involved a pre-post study design conducted under real-life conditions to ensure ecological validity. A total of 35 participants, aged 18-75 from the continental United States, were recruited. Participants were selected based on criteria that included self-reported difficulty in sleeping and allergy symptoms but excluded those with sleep disorders or other medical conditions influencing sleep. The study lasted six weeks, divided into a baseline period without the air purifier and an intervention period with the PuroAir 240. Objective sleep data was collected using SleepScore Max, while subjective data were garnered through daily and pre-post questionnaires.
Key Findings
Objective Sleep Improvement
- Participants experienced a 6% increase in deep sleep, with 4 more minutes per night, as measured by SleepScore Max.
- Eight percent fewer awakenings during the night were reported when using the PuroAir 240.
Self-reported Allergy Improvement
- Participants noted a 27% reduction in the severity of nighttime allergy symptoms.
- Significant reductions in specific symptoms were observed, including a 36% decrease in sneezing and a 64% decrease in red or watery eyes.
Self-reported Sleep Improvement
- Participants felt a 57% increase in sleep quality and a 61% increase in sleep satisfaction.
- Reports indicated a 41% decrease in nights spent tossing and turning, with a 58% increase in mornings feeling well-rested.
User Experience
- Eighty percent of participants felt the air purifier reduced allergy symptoms and improved sleep.
- Almost all participants enjoyed using the device and planned to continue its use, with 97% willing to recommend it to others.
Implications
The findings of this study highlight the significant potential of using the PuroAir 240 air purifier for alleviating allergy symptoms and improving sleep among users. The results suggest that air purifiers like PuroAir 240 can serve as an effective non-invasive alternative to traditional allergy treatments, providing not only symptom relief but also enhancing overall sleep quality. This positions the PuroAir 240 as a valuable tool for individuals seeking to manage allergies and achieve better sleep without pharmaceutical intervention.
