Air Quality and Performance
Why is CADR a flawed metric for evaluating performance?
CADR isn't the best way to evaluate performance. A high CADR rating doesn't show if the unit captures small particles like mold, gas/VOCs, or bacteria. The tests are done at the highest fan speed, where it's noisiest—but in real life, people usually use the quietest, lowest speed.
Plus, CADR doesn't measure how clean the air coming out is or how well the unit performs over time. That's why we focus on better filtration instead of just a high CADR.
How long does it take to clean the air?
It takes about an hour to clean 1,000 square feet for the 240, and an hour to clean 2,000 square feet for the 400.
Do your purifiers emit ozone?
No, PuroAir purifiers don’t emit ozone. They use physical filtration instead of ozone generation to clean the air. Ozone emission is more common with purifiers that use ionizers or ozone generators as their primary cleaning mechanism. According to research by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), ionizers and ozone generators can produce harmful lung irritants and are often less effective at removing particles than other technologies.
Product Features and Indicators
What do the colors on the air quality indicator represent?
Color | Air Quality | Fan | Corresponding AQI Number |
Green | Excellent. The air quality is satisfactory, and pollution poses little or no risk. | Low | <20 |
Yellow | Moderate. The air quality is acceptable, but there may be a risk for some people, especially those sensitive to air pollution. | Medium | <75 |
Red | Poor. Some members of the general public may experience health effects; sensitive groups may experience more serious health effects. | High | >75 |
The green light is on; is the purifier working?
Yes, the green light indicates that the particulate matter in the air isn’t elevated. It’s normal for the light to stay green as it cycles through the air in the room unless something in the environment (like cooking or dust) increases the particulates. The best way to tell if it’s working is to leave it running for a week and then check the filter.
How do I know the purifier is working?
The best way to tell if it’s working is to test the sensor. To do this, rapidly tap the sensor on the back of the purifier for 30 seconds to a minute using a small dirty hand towel (non-microfiber). The indicator should change colors. If it doesn’t, send us a video, and we’ll help diagnose the problem using the at-home “Dust Sensor Test.” If we still can’t find a solution, we’ll send you a replacement as part of your two-year warranty.
Moving and Placement
Where should I place the purifier?
Place the air purifier on a table or bench at least 8 inches away from obstacles. Avoid corners or walls that could block airflow. For best results, position it in a central location or within 10 feet of your bed.
Can I move the purifier around the house instead of buying two purifiers?
PuroAir purifiers are designed for stationary use and must be plugged into an electrical outlet. For continuous air purification across your home, it’s better to have multiple purifiers, especially for larger spaces or multiple levels. However, they’re lightweight and compact, so you can easily move them from room to room.
Do walls inhibit airflow?
Yes, walls and ceiling height can inhibit airflow. Elevate your purifiers on a table for better circulation. Placing two purifiers on opposite ends of your home works well if you have many walls, and keep doors open to bedrooms for improved airflow.
Can I leave the windows open when the purifier is running?
Yes, but it may reduce the purifier’s efficiency.
Should the interior doors be open or closed when the purifier is running?
Keep doors open for better air circulation.
Power and Operations
Can the purifier be plugged into a shared outlet?
Plug the air purifier into its socket and make sure the plug is fully inserted to prevent electric shock or overheating. Keep the purifier 3 feet away from other electrical devices, and use only a 120 V AC power supply.
Can I leave the purifier running when I’m not home?
Yes, it’s safe to leave the purifier running when you’re not home.
How long should the purifier be left on?
For best results, run the purifier all day.
Can I run the purifier all the time?
Yes, you can leave the purifier running continuously. Setting it to auto mode (the first fan speed setting) will adjust the fan speed based on the air quality around the purifier, so you won’t have to adjust it manually.
How much electricity does the purifier use?
45 W or 80 W, similar to the energy usage of a cell phone charger.
Do the purifiers use remote control devices, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi?
No, they don’t. The purifiers are designed to be simple and user-friendly.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Where can I get more filters for my purifier?
You can find filters at getpuroair.com.
How do I reset the purifier after replacing the filter?
When the “Replace Filter” light is on, replace the current filter with a new one. After replacing, press the “Replace Filter” button for 5-10 seconds to reset the filter sensor.
How do I reset the filter sensor?
Press and hold the filter light icon for about 10 seconds until you hear a beep.
Can you vacuum the filter? Is it washable?
You can vacuum the filter, but it isn’t washable. To maintain optimal filtration, replace the filter when the alert goes off. Lab tests show that fresh filters outperform cleaned ones by over 60%. Depending on usage and environment, change filters every 3-5 months.
Additional Features
Can a humidifier and purifier be used together?
Yes, you can use them together, but the humidifier’s mist or increased humidity may trigger the air quality sensor. Place them on opposite sides of the room to prevent the humidifier’s moisture from affecting the air purifier’s intake.
Can I use essential oils around the purifier?
Yes, you can use essential oils in the same room. However, this may trigger the air quality sensor and increase the fan speed. Place the oils and purifier at opposite ends of the room to avoid interference and ensure the oils don’t get filtered out immediately.
Does the purifier use UV light?
No, PuroAir purifiers don’t use UV light for several reasons:
- Increased Cost: Incorporating a UV light increases costs. It makes the purifier more expensive and raises electricity bills. UV lights also require regular maintenance and replacement, which adds to the ongoing expenses.
- Ineffective and Unproven: UV air purifiers are only effective at killing bacteria and viruses if the microorganisms are exposed to UV light for a long duration. In many purifiers, the air passes through too quickly for this to happen.
- Ozone Emission: UV air purifiers emit ozone, which can cause respiratory issues, especially for those with asthma or other lung conditions. The EPA advises against using air purifiers that emit ozone.
- UV-C Light Exposure: UV-C light can be harmful if not properly contained. Direct exposure can cause skin and eye damage, so proper installation and containment within the device are crucial to prevent accidental exposure.
Shipping and Warranty
What countries do you ship to?
We currently ship to the US and Canada. We’re planning to expand to more countries soon.
Do I need to register for the two-year warranty?
Not if you purchased through getpuroair.com, because your two-year warranty is automatically applied at purchase. All orders include a two-year warranty from the date of purchase. Contact us anytime to make a warranty claim.
How can I keep my two-year warranty valid?
The two-year warranty is automatically applied at purchase and covers defects in materials and workmanship. Note that the warranty is non-transferable. To keep your warranty valid:
- Operate the air purifier according to the provided instructions.
- Replace the filter with the original PuroAir replacement filters as recommended. Using counterfeit filters voids the warranty.
- Connect the purifier to the proper power supply based on the country of purchase.
- Avoid tampering, mishandling, neglect, accidental damage, modification, abuse, misuse, or unauthorized repairs. Voltage modifications void the warranty.
- Keep the purifier within the original country of purchase.
- Ensure the warranty isn’t from third-party sellers.
Do you offer a lifetime warranty?
Yes, we offer a lifetime warranty for customers with an active filter subscription. While the subscription is active, the corresponding purifier will be covered under the lifetime warranty, following the same guidelines as the two-year warranty. If the subscription is interrupted, the warranty will be void. However, customers can keep the subscription active and pause or skip shipments when needed.
Can I cancel my order after it’s been fulfilled?
